About
Hey, I’m Jonjoe1001.
I’m a learning developer. Most of what I build starts as getting frustrated by pay walls or fun nerdy tools — Oh and games because who doesn’t like games. I’ve never been the type of person who quits something they start, so after a few nights or years, BOOM, a new program enters the world.
What I really care about is the part underneath. Not just does the game run, but is the thing driving it any good? A physics step that doesn’t blow up. A room editor good enough that building levels stops being a chore. A brain graph that shows function and properly works. That’s the stuff I’m proud of, and it’s most of what I end up writing about in the dev log.
How I got here
I started teaching myself to program in 2023. No plan — just a pile of things I wanted to exist and no idea how to build them. So I built them badly, and then I built them again a little better, and then slightly less better. (<— We are Here)
Eventually my girlfriend and I started working on Timeless, a twin-stick roguelike with a Steam build currently in playtesting beta! Custom engine on Pygame, my own room editor, three bosses, full Steam integration with achievements and leaderboards. Every piece of that was something I had to work out first, and building it taught me more than any tutorial ever did. Diving off the deep end is my specialty.
I started school in 2025, so now I get to learn this properly and keep doing it my own stubborn way. I won’t name my school, but I’m currently double majoring in software engineering and physics. I hope one day I can take my skills to build a better future, and if not better MORE FUN WITH LOTS OF GAMES.
What I build with
- Python — game engines, tooling, automation, local AI pipelines
- JavaScript — simulations that run right in a browser with zero dependencies
- Godot 4 — 3D, procedural geometry, GDScript
- C & CUDA — for when something needs to be STUPID fast
- Self-hosting — TrueNAS, and a house full of services I’d rather own than rent
If there’s a pattern here, it’s that I like owning the whole stack. Timeless runs on an engine I wrote. DIANA is a voice assistant that never sends a single word to somebody else’s server. Even this site is hand-written HTML with no framework, because I want to still be able to fix it in two years. AND NO PAYWALL OR SUBSCRIPTION. Also running this site off my own home server.
Outside the editor
I’m a huge nerd. I love math, physics, and psychology. I love to sit in awe of the wonder of the world. My dream in life is to do something meaningful on the frontier of modern science, but I have a hell of a way to go. I figure if I keep chipping away a little every day, someday I’ll get there OR DIE TRYING!
Come build things with me
I’d much rather this site be the start of something than a museum. If you make games, break games, or just want to argue about whether fixed timesteps are worth the trouble — I want to hear from you. The modern world has robbed us of our sense of community, so let’s connect our minds!
Tell me what you’re working on. Tell me what I got wrong! Seriously, if you played Timeless and something felt off, that is honestly my favourite kind of message to get.
